Rosedale Abbey is a picturesque village 10 miles from Pickering and 17 miles from Whitby on the coast. It never had an abbey but the remains of the Priory, which was occupied by the Cistercians for 400 years from the mid-12th century, can be seen in the turret field next to the church. The walks all-round the village, up on the disused railway line and on the Moors offer fabulous views of this particularly lovely area.
