Situated opposite the village green and duck pond at the heart of the picturesque village of Newton-on-Rawcliffe, with local Pub nearby, you can be assured of a memorable self-catering holiday at Mel House Cottages. The properties here sleep a range of 3 to 6 people so you’re sure to find one to suit you. Unusually, two cottages are fully ‘accessible’ so those special facilities – wet room, support rails, etc. – required by Guests using wheelchairs are in place to make a holiday stay away from home entirely practical.

In 1999, owners John and Penny Wicks developed Mel House Cottages, converting the old stone stables and the granary into four fully equipped holiday properties and adding the Leisure Suite. Set within extensive level grounds, each property has retained its particular building’s charm, including original beams, stone features, and two of them have wood burning stoves. There are peaceful outdoor seating areas with patio furniture, picnic benches and barbecue, perfect for alfresco dining. Spacious open plan sitting rooms, fully fitted kitchens, bathrooms and dining areas complete the picture.

A very special feature at Mel House Cottages is the indoor Leisure Suite exclusive to Guests. Here, you can relax in the spa or sauna whereas those who want a little exercise can swim in the heated pool with its powerful – but optional! – counter-current unit which permits ‘swimming on the spot’ against a powerful jet of water. John knows the area like the back of his hand and enthuses about the wealth and diversity of attractions all within a 40 minute drive. Pickering is only 5 miles away, lose yourself in Cropton Forest, visit historic York, or lounge on beautiful beaches along the East Coast – you’ll not regret visiting this wonderful part of North Yorkshire!
